Today we will be talking about the new release of WordPress. WordPress 3.3 is called “Sonny” in honor of the great jazz saxophonist Sonny Stitt.

There are mainly menu changes in this update. The collapsible admin menus in the Dashboard are now dropdown menus and makes it easier to add new content.

This new release of WordPress also has a new Media upgrade. You can now drag and drop files and they automagically upload.

Today we will also talk about COMMENTS and how to disable them.

We will also install a comment spam plugin called “AntiSpam Bee”. Go to PLUGINS -> ADD NEW and search for “AntiSpam Bee” and install it then activate it.

I will talk about these things and then show you a short video on the video screen then let you get right to work!

Enjoy!

Hello Students!

Last week there was no class as you know. There was no water at the school from 1-6pm so the toilets were not flushable and they had to cancel all classes!

Here is “Todays Lesson”:

  • All students must update the email address in the settings of each of your WordPress sites. This allows you to retrieve you password without my help if you ever lose it.
  •   Add a new user to your WordPress site called “webmaster” so that I can access the site if an when you need help. Make sure the new user has admin access and a special secret password. Go to the “Contact The Webmaster” link on this site and send me a message with the subject “password” and send me your new secret password for the webmaster user you just made.
  • Download images from Google images. First create a new folder on your Desktop called HTML then in that folder create a new folder called “images”. Now you can download images and have a place to put them.
  • Go to your WordPress site and create a new test page called “Images”. Now edit the “Images” page and INSERT images onto the page by clicking on the “Upload/Insert” under the TITLE field for any page or post. This will allow you to upload an image and insert it into the page or post. Please try this yourself and ask for help if needed.
  • Once done with these items go to SantaCruzTeenSpace.Com and signup for an account and friend your fellow classmates!
  • Make sure to go to B40WebDesign.Com during the week if you need help and send me a message through the “Contact The Webmaster” link.
